It’s Time To Be Realistic About Money Goals Based On

It’s not going to come easy.

Recently, I wrote an article for a client who wanted me to talk about why Roblox was so popular. While I was researching the topic I found that one of the common denominators for the popularity of the game was a group of people made it so big on the platform that they were able to pay their way through their undergraduate degree and made them multi-millionaires.

Of course, seeing this kind of success made hundreds of thousands of people want to emulate their success by trying to do it themselves. I stumbled upon forum thread after forum thread of people trying and failing, often investing so much time, energy, and even their own money into an almost impossible venture.

I notice the same behavior on websites such as YouTube and Twitch. There are only a handful of people who make it big to the point where they’re making the kind of money some of us only dream of. Unfortunately, as someone who sits on the sidelines and observes, I watch people try so hard and crumble as they fail time after time to emulate the success of people who have made it.

There’s nothing wrong with trying. People often brag about how much money they make on different platforms, which is a big motivator for many, but they know how hard it is to climb the mountain to where they are. Some might think they kind of enjoy looking down and watching people struggle to get to the top.

However, the reason they’re at the top is that they made their own way. Popular Twitch streamers, YouTube content creators, or even Roblox developers are where they are now because they made their own paths up the mountain. They saw an opening and they took it, often, closing the door behind them.

If you’re going to start a YouTube channel then don’t expect to be an overnight success. It may have worked out for some people, but for every one person who made it up there, hundreds have tried and failed. Don’t look at someone’s earnings and expect you’re going to see that overnight. I often see that kind of defeatest behavior among my social circles when they aren’t making the kind of money that others are making in their profession. It might take time, but you also have to keep in mind that you might never make it there. That’s just part of being realistic.

They often tell you to reach for your dreams and never give up, and there’s nothing wrong with following that quote, but at the same time, don’t get angry at yourself or the people who have made it when you just can’t. It isn’t worth the energy, because someday you’ll find your own way up and be the beacon for others to follow.
