Hello guys, this is David Sherwin with Sober Motivation. I want to explain to you guys how I’ve blown over $40,000 in the past 7 years on alcohol.
If you watch my previous Youtube video about why I got sober, it came down to the fact my life was crashing and burning, all of my relationships, and something that I think I need to talk about is finances.
To give you a break down on how I spent soo much money on alcohol, it came down to the fact that I was addicted to craft beer and at one point lots of Jack Daniels. It’s simple math to explain the $40,000+ I spent. At an average of $13 a day, along with $50 of Jack Daniels at some point every two days, and that number would probably increase during the weekends of how much I spent, 13 times 365 for each day of the year multiplied by 7 for 7 years bringing the total to $33,215, plus the $50 multiplied by by 3.5 for one handle of whiskey every two days, increased by 52 for the weeks in the year totaling $9,100. Add that together, and I’ve spent easily over $40,000 on alcohol in my time of drinking.
To make it sting a little bit more, I’ll go over what I could have spent all that money on:
A house down payment.
Stocks and other investments
A new Tesla Model 3
8 trips to Hawaii
2 visits to Antartica
Better Youtube equipment, plus money to promote it, and push it out to a bigger audience
If you can see obviously with the amount of money I’ve spent, it’s definitely a painful reminder to keep in mind for this channel. If I had not stopped, depending on when my liver eventually gave, I would have likely doubled or tripled that amount future. But there is a great saying I need to use for this “The best time to plant a tree is yesterday, the next best day to plant a tree is a today.”
So quite a painful thing to realize but I hope this gives you guys some motivation on why you might want to get a handle or seek help if you need it when dealing with this issue like I was dealing with it. There is no weakness in asking for help when you desperately need it like I did. Okay, I hope you guys enjoyed this video and got some perspective on how expensive it can be, especially on a daily occasion, like it was for me. It is worth your time AND money to think about.
