I don’t understand why and how too many of us worship all types of celebrities, such as singers, actors, and footballers, when most of them never do anything for the society?
I have heard a lot of people claiming bad things about nowadays society, such as: “everybody cares only about themselves”; “there are no good people left anymore”; “everyone thinks only about money”; “I hate how superficial and materialistic males/females have become” etc. However, simultaneously, not only do they not contribute to a better society and future, but they also support its opponents.
“Average” people spend their money on meaningless things (i.e. things that are not essential nor needed for their survival)-for instance, cinema or concert tickets. I, by no means, underestimate some people’s talents and efforts in the entertainment industry, as well as their contribution to a better society, but the painful truth is most of such entertainers are far from all that.??
Let’s put things a bit more into a perspective, shall we? The highest grossing movie of all times (As of May, 2018; Business Insider) Avatar is at a staggering $2.788 billion, most of which have gone into the pockets of actors and actresses, who, in turn, have splashed their fortune on material things such as cars, huge mansions, and expensive clothes. Of course, they show all the latter off shamelessly in front of their loyal audience, huge part of which lives in debt, is unemployed, can never even dream of having such lavish possessions. So, where is the logic? Does that make you rethink some of the choices you have recently made?
Furthermore, imagine what this money-$2.788 billion-could do had it been used for charities? Imagine that times ten-obviously, we could all do the maths and work the final figure out-it would probably come from adding up the 30 highest grossing movies of all time. And this has all been amassed by “average” people paying for cinema tickets… Thus, we can all afford to support a charity, for example, every now and then, and actually create a massive difference. This is how poverty could be alleviated-by taking the money out of our pockets and re-directing them from the rich people’s ones, to the ones of those MUCH less fortunate. Do you think that would make any kind of difference?
Another huge downfall of people supporting celebrities is that by doing so you favour lifestyle that is superficial not only because of the fancy things celebrities buy with your money, but also because of what a lot of them do to their own face and bodies with your dollar. Yes, you got it! Expensive make up, plastic surgeries, all types of temporary corrections-pardon me-enhancements, hordes of professional MUAs and stylists, expensive facials and masks, etc. Okay, to be real as I am, the latter is something I would go for if I had the opportunity too, but as for the others-that is just way. too. much. And why do they do that? So that ordinary people feel envious of them, start hating themselves and wondering what is wrong with them for never being able to look “that pretty”, getting all anxious, straying themselves away from society and even loved ones, getting depressed? Really? And this is where our money goes-to enable such a cruel reality?
The truth is-or…well, this is what some celebrities have said-is that they feel all this attention causing them loads of pressure too. Trying to fit people’s expectations of you to always look on point, never age, always be in shape, look stylish and so on, can indeed be very stressful.
So, the question is-why do we all do this to ourselves?
