Loose Change Med Daily

Is the effort to turn out a bunch of low-earning stories a week worth it or should I change direction on the platform?

I’ve been grinding away on Medium since last April. I know that’s not enough time to judge success or failure on the platform. I‘ve never done any kind of significant writing in the past but I’m questioning if I’m pursuing the right strategy to make money on here. There’s more than just churning out content every day if you want to be successful.

I’ve read the infinite number of articles on how much money people make and how to do it. You can make some good money writing that material all the time, but I don’t want to do it that way.

November was a terrible earnings month for me. It’s my fault because I didn’t produce much due to life happening. The amount I earned for the content was about right for what I usually produce so I’m not losing my mind like other people over the new payment program.

However, I couldn’t buy a curated article. Who knows if it helps? It doesn’t hurt if it happens though! Curators are reading my writing so I’m not in “jail” so that’s positive.

I’ve never gotten over the $100 milestone. It’s time for that to change since I’m trying to at least pay some bills from here. Thank god I don’t need this to live.

I try not to complain or bring up a problem without an idea for a solution. It’s a great rule to implement for your direct reports at your job too. Instead of churning out low paying content, I’m going big to pitch the Medium publications. They pay real money for your writing. I never did before since I wanted the immediate gratification of clicking publish, not the fear of rejection. Time to hold off on the marshmallow.

My biggest concern is the Medium publications not being inclusive due to my political perspective. I primarily write articles from a conservative point of view. I avoid the name-calling and personal attacks. I present facts and statistics at every opportunity. It will be interesting if they want a more diverse point of view in their publications if my writing is good enough.

This should be an interesting experiment to end the year. It’s a win if I can get a couple of high-quality articles into Medium publications. My skills won’t get any better if I don’t up my game. I’m much more likely to get noticed or get great exposure in their publications. Maybe it will be my big break!
