Sorry, I just have to get this off of my chest!
Like all of you, I am stuck at home and probably spending too much time online. I have to say that I have never been so embarrassed and angry with people in the real estate industry right now. The level of tone-deafness in so many agents is beyond belief!
As I scroll through LinkedIn and Facebook, I am hit with a barrage of posts from said agents. For example, “The advantages of Buying over Renting”, “I sold more homes than anyone in this town”, “I am in the Top 1% of agents Nationwide”! Are you kidding me??
I don’t care what your thoughts are on the current situation. If you think it is overblown, if you think it is being handled poorly, whatever you may feel, nobody cares. Right now, the entire nation is feeling nervous, scared, unsure of what to do, or what is going to happen. The last thing anyone needs to hear right now is how great of a salesman you are!
You all realize that when you type a question into Google, Google will automatically fill in the top search terms for whatever you are searching for. If you have never typed into Google “Why are Realtors….” Check this out below.
This was disturbing before the world changed. I can only imagine that it will get worse after world affairs settle down.
The one and only thing that you should be posting now as a Realtor or any business owner, are things that can help people in your community. “Please donate to the food bank”, “How can we help YOUR situation”, “Please support our local restaurants”.
People are looking for help, and people are looking for ways to help others. For agents to be posting about how great they are right now is unbelievable to me. NOBODY CARES (Not even your Mom) if you sold 1 house or 1000 houses right now.
If you are an agent who pays a 3rd party to post for you, call them and make sure the posts are helpful. If you are not paying attention to what they are posting, how closely do you pay attention to a client’s contract?
We will get through this, we just need to be community leaders. Show some compassion and you might be surprised with how it makes you feel.
Everything that you have done in real estate before last week doesn’t matter. The world has changed. People are going to remember who helped them during this time, not the people who showed off their awards during this time. Just be a good human!
